Public lecture "Cyber Threats, Emerging Technologies, and Legal Solutions" - October 7th @ 12:30, UNWE, room 308k

The lecture will cover different types of cyber “threats” facing businesses, governments, and individuals and how to respond to cyber events in line with current laws, international agreements, and regulations.

This lecture will examine recent cyber incidents to distill important details of each incident as well as the key considerations involved in responding, recovering, and restoring services after a cyber incident. This lecture will also include a brief overview of emerging technologies and their potential uses, which could both increase and decrease security threats in the future.

Patrick Kyhos is an expert in cyber security, emerging technology, and international cooperation. He's at UNWE as a Fulbright Specialist to share guidance and enhance the Cybersecurity Management master's program.

Previously, Patrick served in the White House as Director of Cyber Operations, Planning, and Response. Before that assignment, he worked in the United States' Department of Justice. He started as an attorney, handling high-priority cases involving technology. From this position, he was specially selected to serve as a leader and project manager on matters pertaining to lawful use of emerging technology. Separately, he led a special team of cyber investigators to handle international cyber incidents; supported foreign partners during attacks; and directly engaged private companies after ransomware attacks.

Patrick has a Masters of Science in Technology Systems. He also has two law degrees, a juris doctorate (J.D.) - with a concentration on privacy and cybersecurity - and a masters of law (LL.M.) - in technology law, from Georgetown University. Georgetown University
