UNWE and DNRS hosted international seminar on anti-corruption measures

The University of National and World Economy (UNWE) hosted an international seminar on the topic "The EU Anti-Corruption Framework in the Making", in which participated researchers from Bulgaria, Italy, Greece and Croatia. The event was held as part of the KA220-HED project under the Erasmus+ programme: "Development and implementation of anti-corruption education program for Universities in Bulgaria, Greece and Croatia (EDU-ANTI-CORR)", coordinated by a research team from the Department of National and Regional Security.

The seminar was opened by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of the UNWE and Head of the Department of National and Regional Security in the period 2007-2024, who welcomed the participants with the words: "The topic is very important, and this seminar is a continuation of the work with our partners from Italy, Croatia and Greece on building the EU anti-corruption framework, with efforts focused on actions against corruption. For years, there has been a vision that the topics related to the fight against corruption are complex and must be represented in legislation, studied by students in law schools, but they should also encompass various other disciplines - economic, sociological, psychological, in order for all of us to successfully counter corruption. Continuous efforts need to be made in this area and I am happy for the efforts that the Erasmus program is making. Perhaps in the future we will have the opportunity to discuss the introduction of several local or regional anti-corruption academies in cooperation with our partners from Southeastern Europe. It is important that our future activities include not only theoretical, but also practical training."

The keynote speaker was Prof. Teresa Russo from the Department of Law at the University of Salerno, Italy, who shared her experience, presenting some considerations regarding the competence and anti-corruption framework of the EU, the need for its updating in view of the systemic approach, as well as the critical final phase of the interinstitutional negotiations.

Moderator of the event was Sen. Assist. Prof. Dr. Atanas Dimitrov, DNRS Scientific Secretary and participant in the project. Among the presenters were the project leader Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetoslav Spasov (UNWE), Prof. Dr. Anamarija Musa (Department of Administrative Sciences at the University of Zagreb, Croatia), Prof. Dr. Dimitris Zuvas (Director of EUROCRIM, Panteion University of Athens, Greece), Dr. Emanuele Vannata (Department of Legal Sciences at the University of Salerno) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suncana Roksandić (Head of the research team from the University of Zagreb, Croatia).
