On 20 June 2025, Emmanuel Abenanye, a PhD student from DNRS, successfully defended his dissertation on the topic "Rwanda's Preparedness and Responses to Radiological and Nuclear (RN) Threats and Incidents: Contributing to Regulatory Framework Towards the Strengthening Nuclear Security in Rwanda". The doctoral student's scientific supervisor was Prof. Dr. Tsvetan Tsvetkov.

Dr. Emmanuel Abenanye was born in Rwanda and is currently an expert in the field of nuclear safety and security with proven experience in radiation protection, nuclear security and emergency preparedness and response. With the successful defence of his dissertation, Emmanuel Abenanye becomes the latest foreign doctoral student to successfully defend his thesis in the Department of National and Regional Security.
